How to Manifest Like a Boss

Bold & Pop : How to Manifest Like a Boss

Chances are you’ve heard all the buzz about manifestation and some of you are going to be all YASSS girl gimme the goods and some of you are going to think I’m batshit crazy. For those of you that think I’m nuts, I don’t really consider myself an overly “woo woo” type of person but I do consider myself a positive person and the type to think, “What the heck? Doing these things can’t hurt, right?” And because of this attitude, I’ve not only successfully manifested the exact car I wanted at the price I wanted but also my dream trip for my upcoming 30th birthday. So say what you want but there’s something to this thang!

Alright, let’s start with a little story time. As I mentioned before I successfully manifested the exact car that I wanted for the price that I wanted. In December, my lease was ending but I had always planned on buying that car at the end of the lease. Girl likes a good deal though so I decided to head to the dealership a few months before my lease was up to look into my options: purchasing vs. leasing a new car. Well of course, the dealership dangled a shiny beautiful new car in front of me as my option for a new lease. For real, so many new features but the black rims were what really sold me (yes, I apparently think I’m P. Diddy and these became a necessity in my life). But the lease payments were going to be WAY more than what my payments would have been if I were to purchase my old car.

So trying to be financially smart, I went home without a beautiful new car to wait until the end of my lease to purchase the car I already had. Fast forward about 2 months and I got a phone call from a manager at the dealership literally days before I needed to purchase my car saying that they were in desperate need of used inventory and they were willing to make me an aggressive offer. And the rest is history… I’m now rolling around in my new car thinking I’m way cooler than I actually am.

Next story (don’t worry, last one and there’s a reason I’m telling these!), for about the last 2 years I’ve been saying that I wanted to hike to Havasupai in the Grand Canyon for my 30th birthday. You are required to have permits to do this and these are next to impossible to get since people have started to share this dreamy oasis on Instagram. I happened to mention this to 2 friends in mid-January saying that I’d love to do this but permits were probably already sold out for the year. Well one of my friends looked into this and permits for the year opened in about 2 weeks and the planning began. The only problem was that getting these permits are literally like getting tickets to {insert your favorite artist here}'s concert and sell out insanely quickly.... like 15 min - 1 hour quick.

On February 1, the three of us each anxiously waited for it to turn 10 a.m. to quickly hop on their brand spankin’ new site to get permits while everyone else and their mother did the same. Ten minutes later, my friend got in, got 3 permits for the dates we wanted (my 30th!), and I was crying all the happy tears. Literally couldn't have gone smoother which is a miracle in itself if you talk to anyone that's tried to get these permits.

So why do you need to know these stories? I personally find it easier to learn about manifesting when there are real examples to go off of. It’s easy for someone to say “Visualize what you want” but without giving a detailed example of how they did that, I think it’s hard to grasp a semi-arbitrary concept, especially if it’s completely foreign to you. Now that we have that covered, let’s get to the nitty gritty!

This is a brand new concept for me but something that I think played a huge role in the above two stories. I’ve been working on manifesting for years and looking back, it’s worked here and there but these last 2 times, I was like WHOA IS THIS HAPPENING? Which means I knew something was very different.

I truly believe that you need to constantly work on becoming the best version of yourself to be successful in manifesting.

Over the last year and a half, I’ve completely changed my life. I’ve gotten rid of negativity. I’ve started exercising (after finding rock climbing and yoga and falling in love). I’ve started eating better. I’ve worked on being less judgmental. I’ve learned to set boundaries when needed. I’ve built my confidence and self-esteem to the point of truly loving the person I am becoming. This is a continuous, ongoing process that I will forever be honing in on and this will look different for everyone. But one thing is for sure, the universe will not reward you with what you desire if you don’t put in the work to become the person that deserves those things.

So take a second and evaluate if there are areas of your life that could use a little improvement. Are you truly happy and fulfilled? This should be a question you ask yourself regularly and if the answer is no, do something to change that. The universe favors those that take action.

Last (and very important) point on this... It's amazing to continue to work on yourself BUT make sure you are practicing gratitude for the life and things you already do have. I didn't need this new car or vacation. I already had a great car and a life I don't really need a vacation from. Acknowledging this and practicing gratitude sends those good vibes out into the universe so they'll come back to you tenfold.

This is the most common part of manifestation that you’ve likely heard a lot about it. There are tons of ways you can do this. A vision board, saving photos, and mindful meditation are just a few options. I personally have a vision board that I update yearly. I keep it in a little built-in office area that I have in my kitchen and no joke, I look it over while I’m brushing my teeth in the morning. I use this to visualize more abstract things I’d like to achieve but I do have a photo of one of the waterfalls in Havasupai!

After the dealership dangled that pretty car in front of me, I went home and found a picture of the exact car I wanted. I actually did this to just remember what it looked like for when I was balling enough to get this car. I saved the photo to my desktop (just as a thumbnail, not as the desktop background) and left it there. Even though it was just a small thumbnail, every time I went to my desktop, it was right there for me to get a glimpse.

I’m personally not big into meditation (the only time I can handle this is during savasana in yoga) but I know people swear by it! One of the members in the #BoldBossTribe, June Cruz from Enamour Style, suggested using the app 10% Happier. You can start with mediating for 10 minutes and work your way up.

Whether or not you decide to give meditation a shot, give yourself a few minutes to close your eyes and picture yourself driving that car you want, looking at those waterfalls on your dream trip, holding that puppy you want, or whatever it is. Picture yourself actually doing it and/or achieving it!

All the Feels

This is the most powerful part of manifestation… feel the emotions associated with getting exactly what you want. How does it feel to drive that car? How does it feel to work with that dream client? Literally, imagine it has already happened and feel those feelings baby.

You'll want to pair this with your visualization though. So close your eyes and picture whatever it is you want, picture yourself obtaining this, and then actually feel how you would feel when you do obtain whatever it is you're visualizing. Pay attention to those feelings. Is it a warm fuzzy feeling in your chest? Is it butterflies in your stomach? Really feel it as you visualize.

True story, when I found out we still had an opportunity to get permits to Havasupai, I stood in the shower, closed my eyes and pictured those beautiful blue waters flowing over the red canyon walls, and I literally almost started crying. Like a full-on happy cry. I was feeling exactly what I’m sure I will feel in a few short months when I’m standing in the exact spot I was envisioning. Associating the emotions you’ll feel is so insanely powerful so visualizing isn't nearly enough… you need to feel it too!

And last but not least, you have to believe it! You have to truly believe you are deserving of what you want and are capable of obtaining it. For me, this was a matter of building my confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth… all a part of the prep step above.

One way I’ve done this is using affirmations. Affirmations are little positive phrases you say to yourself to help build your confidence through positive thinking. A few you can start with include:

  1. I am worthy, powerful, and capable.

  2. I think only good thoughts.

  3. I welcome and embrace change.

  4. My life is changing for the better.

  5. Money flows easily to me.

I used affirmations in two different ways. I look at myself in the mirror and say them to myself. This helps reinforce those positive statements while looking at yourself. Another way is I set up reminders on my phone at random times throughout the day. So at 11 a.m. I have one that pops up and another at 1 p.m., etc. This is a nice little reminder throughout the day to reaffirm certain beliefs.

The last and final step is taking action. It isn't enough to just put these things out into the universe and hope they just fall into your lap (although it will feel like that's happening when you start manifesting the things you want). You need to go out there and put in the effort. You need to show the universe you are willing to work for what you want.

Yes, I put a picture of the car I wanted on my desktop and envisioned myself happily driving around in it, etc. But I also decided to really ramp up my efforts in signing new business and working my little butt off so I could afford that specific car or another in the future. Do. The. Work. The universe will definitely reward you.

And there you have it.. these 5 things are the basic principles I use for manifesting. I truly believe you need to integrate these all together to have the most success. You need to do the work to become the best version of you (whatever that means for you), visualize and feel the feelings associated with whatever it is you are visualizing and then BELIEVE you will receive it.

It’s a process that may take some time. You’ll want to see what works best for you and keep learning from others. I personally love Melyssa Griffin’s podcast Pursuit with Purpose. It’s not solely focused on manifestation but it’s all about finding your true purpose in life and there are SO many amazing little nuggets in each podcast that can help with manifesting.

Alright, now that half of you reading this are like YASSS girl and the other half of you are thinking this chick is nuts, I’ll leave you with this… it never hurts to be positive and become the best version of yourself possible. Am I right or am I right?

Have you successfully manifested something? I’d love to hear your story and tips in the comments!

Why You Need a Vision Board for Your Goals

Bold & Pop : Why You Need a Vision Board for Your Goals

While I was certainly familiar with the term vision board, prior to starting a business I didn't totally understand why I really needed one. I mean, I always write my goals down each year and have my “big picture” in mind, why do I need a board with cute pictures on it to remind me of that? Besides, even if I wanted a vision board where in the world would I put one in my NYC-sized apartment? Well, this year I made the room because since becoming a biz owner I’ve experienced how much a mindset shift can affect your success. That even on the days you aren’t feeling your total best (hey, even us Bold & Pop ladies have our days), finding the positive and looking at the big picture is the key to staying on track, moving forward, and crushing your goals. So, call me a believer but this year I’m abandoning my normal tradition of writing down my goals and then turning the page in my notebook or stuffing them in my drawer and going full on with my vision board!

Why Vision Boards are Powerful

As I mentioned, your mindset can have such a powerful effect on your success. For example, even though 3 years ago I would have NEVER thought of being a business owner, I opened my eyes to the possibility and when things fell into place the thought wasn’t as scary anymore. I wasn’t afraid to make the jump because while there were some scary elements to making the transition like byeee stable salary, I just KNEW that we would figure it out if we poured our hearts into Bold & Pop. I erased the word “failure” from my mind and only focused on the positive. Vision boards can have the same effect! It serves as a reminder every time you look at it of that feeling that drives you forward. If you can visualize it, and you work really hard anything is possible sista!

So What is a Vision Board Really?

While there are a lot of different ways you can create a vision board, the key is to put together a collection of photos, inspiring quotes and other items that represent your goals and ambitions. Vision boards are all about visualizing and manifesting your dreams. Even the process itself is inspiring because it forces you to take your goals one step further and find visual components that you can identify with and that represent your bigger picture. It’s more than just a bulletin board or wall filled with pretty pictures – it’s a collection of items that drive out different feelings and emotions to help you maintain a driven and positive mindset. The goal is to remind yourself where you’re at, what you’re working for and how hard you’re working to get there.

Ok Cool, So How do I Make One and What Should I Put on it?

So where do you start when it comes to creating one? The first step is to find a bulletin board or part of a wall in your home or office that you will see regularly. The key to unleashing the power of a vision board is actually being able to see it! Next up it’s time to start looking for some things to actually put on your wall. Here are some suggestions based on what I included on mine.

  • List of yearly goals: So I didn’t totally give up my tradition of writing down my goals. This time they’re going on display though as a constant reminder! Mallory and I worked really hard last month to nail down our goals for Bold & Pop for 2017 so I printed our goals worksheet out from our freebies and went to town! I think along with visualizing my goals, I also like to see them written out on the daily so I always have them in mind.

  • Word of the year or month: Another tactic I wanted to incorporate into my vision board was my word of the year. Mallory has used the technique for several years, and inspired me to give it a shot this year. Oh heyyyy 2017, watch out because my word is unstoppable! I had a handful of words I couldn’t decide from so Mallory also suggested (she has bomb advice) having a yearly overarching word and then also having monthly words for specific focuses. PS: We have a fun content upgrade on this point for you too!

  • Affirmations and positive quotes: I already had a collection of quotes I’ve been saving on my digital “vision board” on Pinterest so I hopped over there to actually print out ones that really had an effect on the way I feel. You know those quotes that just resonate with you and you’re like oh heck yes! Well, find those that support your goals and put them on the wall!

  • Pictures of your favorite memories, people and places: You can do a lot of things with this one.. Remember, there are no rules! I pinned some photos of my family on my vision board because they have always been a driving force with even wanting to embark on this wild journey of starting a biz. I also pinned several pics of some of my adventures in 2016 to represent the freedom Bold & Pop has allowed and all of the incredible new places I got to see in one year – something I would like to continue to enjoy as we grow.

  • Abstract photos/images: Not all of your vision board choices have to be so black and white in their meanings either. Don’t be afraid to also pin pictures of powerful women, your role models, beautiful views from around the world, and other pics that just strike a cord with you… This is YOUR vision and what you’re dreaming for your life and the fun part about that is we all have different views of what lies ahead for each of us.

Now that you have some of the basics for vision boards it’s time to make your own (if you haven’t already!) To help you get started we created a "Visualize THIS Vision Board Pack" content upgrade to help you find your word of the year as well as some inspiring quotes you may want to include on yours.
