How to Easily Give Your Website an Updated Look

Bold & Pop ; How to Easily Give Your Website an Updated Look

It’s Valentine’s Day so you better believe we’re talking about something we LOVE… Web design! The majority of people that come to us for web design typically want a completely new look compared to their current website or they don’t yet have a website and are building from scratch. But what happens when you like your current website and you just want to add a little more pizazz to give it an updated look? Welp, you are in luck my friends because we’re talking just that today!

First things first, you’ll want to do a quick audit of your current website. What do you absolutely love that you don’t want to change? Where do you want to make improvements? This will help you narrow your focus on where to spend your energy on updates.

Sometimes it’s helpful to have an extra set of eyes give you feedback. We often become so attached to our own projects that we miss something major that someone else will point out! So don’t be afraid to ask someone for their opinions and then evaluate them to see what fits best with your brand vision.

Updated Imagery

This is one of the fastest ways to give your website a little facelift. If you have new, updated photos of your products or ones that represent the service you provide, pop those babies in! During your audit you likely made note or a few images that were less than favorable so this is the perfect opportunity to update those with new ones you loveeee!

If you don’t have new images but you have a few that you don’t feel property represent your brand, it might be time to schedule a little photoshoot to update those pictures. The best part is you can then also use them on your social media and any other marketing materials that you’d also like to update to keep all your branding cohesive! Win, win!

Update Fonts

Similar to your imagery, updating your fonts will also give your website some more life! Squarespace has plenty of fonts to choose from (you don’t need to stick to your template’s default!) and it’s super easy to update them in the style editor. Another bonus is you can also add your own custom font! It’s a little more tricky and requires some coding but it will help keep your branding consistent through all your marketing!

However, we don’t recommend using more than 3 different fonts on your website though. More than 3 can be confusing and cause the website to look a bit chaotic. One way you can avoid this is just by adjusting the color or size of the different header fonts to help differentiate between them when necessary!

Focus on Highlighting Content

This is the whole reason people are coming to your website, right? Are your products, blog posts, services, etc. being highlighted in the most effective way? Think of the purpose of your brand and what you want people to do when they come to your website… Do you want them to purchase your products or services? Then you need to make sure it is clear on the homepage what you offer and how they can purchase. Think clear call-to-actions! Want them to read your blog posts? Try something similar by highlighting your latest posts. You may want to categorize your blog and products to make it more simple and clear for visitors to find exactly what they want.

Use creative graphics and imagery to really highlight these key components of your brand and voila! New life to your existing site!

Integrate Animations

A fun way to highlight your content that is gaining a lot of popularity right now? Integrating animations! These don’t have to be anything crazy but just a few little touches here and there will help make your audience’s visit a little more interactive and keep them on your website a little longer. Our favorite types of animations right now include:

How to Choose a Squarespace Template

Bold & Pop : How to Choose a Squarespace Template

So you’ve decided to build your website using Squarespace (Yayy!). You’ve signed up for the free trial, added all your biz and contact info, and now you have to pick a template (gasp). How do you decide? Which one will have the features I need? The layout I need? There are so many options! What do I do?! Well we’re here to help put your mind at ease and help you choose the perfect Squarespace template just for you!

First things first, you want to consider the type of website you need. Squarespace has 3 types of layouts:

  • Cover/landing page

  • Basic website (includes blog, portfolio sites, etc.)

  • Commerce

Depending on your needs, you’ll want to consider this when choosing your Squarespace plan, which will ultimately affect the templates you have access to.

Once you have this decided, you’ll need to consider the functionality and features you’ll need. While you can customize any template to include any of Squarespace’s key functionality and features, there are a few things that depend specifically on the template you use. This could include:

  • Blog sidebar

  • Secondary footer navigation

  • Banner images spanning the width of the page

  • Parallax scrolling

  • Horizontal vs. vertical navigation

  • Different header fonts and colors

Not sure what some of these features are or if you’d like them for your website? Luckily Squarespace always has a preview option for each template and often has example sites to take a look at for some inspiration! However, we do recommend getting out that pen and paper to make note of which features you like so you make sure you get everything you want in the template you choose!

Now that you have your list of must have features, it’s time to actually browse those templates! We recommend starting with the templates that are visually appealing to you right off the bat (if it’s helpful keep note of their names with that pen and paper!). Once you have it narrowed down to a few of your favorites, we suggest checking out Squarespace’s “Using XYZ Template” guide (in the left sidebar). These outline the features from above that you already made note of so you’ll know if that particular template has the functionality you desire. Narrow it down again from there and BOOM you have your template! Insert happy dance!

For all you commitment phobes out there, don’t worry! You can always change your template later if you change your mind! Just make sure to make a note of any changes you’ve made to the style editor before you install the new template. These won’t transfer over and we don't want you to lose all the branding for your site!

Still have questions or need a little help choosing your template? We're just one email away! Have a favorite template? Share in the comments below so anyone working on picking their's can check it out!

PayPal Integration for Squarespace

Bold & Pop : PayPal Integration for Squarespace

Eeee! We're so excited about this news and we just can't hide it! PayPal integration is officially available for online stores on Squarespace! Woop, woop! Why is this such big news? We're taking a look at why and what it means for your website (or if you're thinking about moving to the platform!).

Trusted Payment Source

PayPal has long been looked at as a trusted payment source and having the option adds a sense of security for your customers. Most consumers are familiar with the widely used payment service so having the option on your store can strengthen the consumer's trust and your credibility. This can especially be important for new customers! Consumers want to feel secure about the way their payments are being processed and PayPal can add an extra layer of trust ultimately helping reduce abandoned carts.

Additional Payment Options

Prior to PayPal's beta launch, all payments were processed through Stripe -- another great online payment service. Squarespace customers now have the option to use Stripe, PayPal or both on their websites, which is both great for business owners and consumers. We're big fans of options so we're loving this update! Adding PayPal is also great for business owners who have thought about switching platforms, but who wanted to stick with PayPal for their processing. While you could still use PayPal buttons for products prior to the beta launch, having the built-in integration really simplifies the process making your ecommerce even easier to manage.

Simplifies International Billing

Do you do a lot of business internationally? Then you're going to love this integration! While Stripe also offers international payment processing, the platform serves 25 countries vs PayPal's 190 countries and regions. Now it's time to think about your global marketing strategy 😉.

Squarespace Innovation

We continue to sing the praises for Squarespace because we believe in their product for our clients and updates like this remind us that the platform has its customers in mind. This partnership was pursued because Squarespace's customers kept asking for it and we're big fans of businesses that listen to feedback. While they're always tweaking the platform and making updates -- like their recent free SSL security feature -- this one is a BIG update and we're really excited about the new feature.
