Tell us your bold boss story!:

A little over a year ago I teamed up with a friend to sell a direct sales line of women's clothing, predominately online. Throughout that year I worked so hard to create something that was different from the other ladies selling our line - from developing our own graphics, to creating a true community on facebook , to style challenges with our group, you name it, I did it! Fast forward a bit and, for a handful of reasons that aren't really important here, we made the decision to close up our shop. I, however, had been bitten by the branding and graphics bug, and didn't want to give that up - it was something that I loved and, as it turns out, was pretty darn good at!

So, while one business was closing, my head was filled with ideas of how I could keep creating graphics, and, more than that, continue to help direct sales gals knock it out of the park. When a friend approached me about helping her develop her branding for her new direct sales business, I jumped on it! What started out as just pulling together a brand board and a few graphic templates morphed into managing her Instagram . . . and then managing the Instagram account of another direct sales team! I'm just a few months into this side gig (oh right, I didn't mention that above, I have an almost 4 year old, husband, two dogs, AND a full-time job too), but it has been so fulfilling and fun and I never want that to stop!

I had only been managing the Instagram presence for my first official client for about 2 weeks, when I got a message from her saying "Ummm... so I'm definitely going to have to keep paying you, because I got THREE sales and new group members based on your IG work!" Proud moment there - only a couple of weeks into this side gig and already my client was able to wave her brag flag!

What advice or words of encouragement do you have for the Bold Boss Tribe?:

My biggest piece of advice is to be true to you. Don't let yourself get bogged down with whatever is trending - whether that's in branding colors, font pairings, social media channel usage, etc.. Instead, listen to your heart, and be authentically you without any apologies!

Tell us your bold boss story!:

I owe a lot of my inspiration for becoming an entrepreneur to my husband, Janne. When we first met I had been climbing the corporate ladder for almost a decade and truthfully everything was going really well! Yet, I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach that something was missing!

One day the universe provided an opportunity for me and I decided it was my moment to make a change and I jumped blindly into the unknown. It took a lot of guts and courage but we all know the saying “magic happens outside of your comfort zone,” and wow is it true!

I left my “safe” corporate job and moved to a new destination without a job in order to support my husband’s dreams. I figured I could take some down time in order to explore my own passions. Ironically, the down time never happened. The company I was working for asked me to consult on an amazing project involving a rebrand of their internal perfumery school. I was thrilled and immediately started my own consulting company and become an entrepreneur!

Three years later, my company has evolved and I have been lucky enough to find several passions along the way; including new mama, lifestyle blogger and multi-sensorial brand consultant

People often ask me what influenced this new career. The first would be the time I spent leading large scale changes in organizations. I became very good at communicating, branding and marketing the expectations in order to gain buy-in from people and move them towards the new vision. My first lesson was the importance of finding emotional connections. Being authentic in your messaging is key!

Another influence has been based on my exposure to the flavor and fragrance industry where I learned so much about our senses. My curiosity grew and I started to learn how our senses work when making purchasing decisions. I started to realize that most brands do not capitalize enough on our senses so I saw a huge opportunity in the industry to change that.

Currently I am working with an exciting new brand, pixsweet, who can turn any shape that matters to you into a 3d ice pop! Literally, you can taste the internet! It is a bold boss moment I am most proud of because I decided to work with my husband in a new capacity and had to overcome many challenges in order to do that. A decision that I am super happy about and actually feel has contributed to my confidence, creativity, and self-expression. He challenges me in ways I didn't think were possible and we have complementary skills which really helps with new perspective and innovation.

What advice or words of encouragement do you have for the Bold Boss Tribe?:

Don’t let other people write your story and be sure to pay attention to and act upon your 6th sense. I spent too long living a life which would meet other people’s expectations and ignoring my inner gut. Funny enough there is even research that says your gut is best at making decisions. Today I spend time listening to my body and not acting solely based on logic or other’s opinions. And I am the happiest I have ever been. I hope I am a good example for my son and he feels empowered to live out his dreams!

Tell us your bold boss story!:

I am a retired elementary educator of 30+ years. So how did I get into travel? I have always loved to travel, my parents were both educators and we traveled across the country camping. My college degree was in Travel & Tourism. I wanted to be a travel agent, but the economy was in a recession. I ended up going back to school to get a teaching degree. I was in elementary education for 30+ years as a teacher and an administrator. I loved my job.

Throughout those years I planned trips for me, my family, my friends and others. After I retired two years ago I was planning a destination wedding of my own. I hired help, a travel designer. After our wedding I approached our travel designer about a part-time job. She did not have a job for me but told me I could be an independent contractor with her. Essentially she is my host and takes a 20% cut of my commission. I love what I do!

It isn't easy reinventing yourself when you are over 55! I face lots of tech challenges and I am having to learn social media to promote my biz.I am a cancer survivor, a domestic abuse survivor, I raised 3 boys as a single mom (and supported them) so I figure I've got this.
