Bold & Pop : How to Use Instagram to Drive More Sales

A good Instagram strategy isn’t just snapping a photo, posting, and hoping for the best. To build brand awareness and ultimately drive sales, you need to instill trust with your audience and that isn’t always the easiest thing to do. You need to actively create posts that resonate with your audience which requires planning, creativity and analysis! So we’re walking you through some of our top tips on how to grow your Instagram account and ultimately drive sales… since that’s always the goal as a biz owner, rightttt?

Before you can actively sell to your audience, you need to really instill trust and that goes for whether you are selling a product or a service. This means really developing your brand visually while providing something of value to your growing community. Don’t just sell! Especially as you’re trying to grow your community. You want people to come to you as an authority in your industry (again, even if you’re a product-based or service-based company). Share useful tips related to your industry, blog posts, and/or inspirational posts just to name a few.

You also want to make sure that you’re actively engaging with your ideal audience on a regular basis by monitoring various hashtags related to your business. This allows you to actively connect with those not yet in your community.

Ok, now that we have that covered, let's get to the nitty gritty!

Uniquely Styled Images

What’s the first thing that makes you stop scrolling through your feed and double tap? Even before you read the caption? The actual image! This is the first thing that draws people in without even knowing what the post is necessarily about. Because of this, you want to make sure you have a uniquely curated grid with quality images.

This is especially true for product-based businesses (although every company should have high quality images). I call out product-based businesses though because you are actually showcasing your products so they need to be displayed properly. Lighting is one of the most important aspects to getting a quality Insta-worthy shot to share, but there are several other factors in styling the perfect Instagram photo. Don’t worry.. We have those for you right here!

While you want to make sure each photo is styled uniquely, you also want to make sure your entire grid is cohesive. This means keeping your lighting, filters, colors, and overall tone consistent!

Tell a Story

After an image catches your eye, you most likely go to read the caption so you want to make sure your captions are bomb digs too! Your caption is what helps bring your photo to life. You don’t want to just describe your product or service. Is there a story you can share related to the photo? Instead of just saying, hey we can build your website or check out the website we just built, try sharing how a new website can benefit your audience or share how you brought a client’s vision for their website to life. You can show how to use your product in various ways to highlight the versatility or share a story about how your product has helped a customer. Providing the story behind the image can have a huge impact for your audience and really help them connect with you and your business.

The most important thing is to try different things to see what resonates best with your audience. Maybe it’s something short and catchy or maybe is a longer story. You never know until you test it out!

And don’t forget to use hashtags to help get your post noticed beyond your community (Pro tip: You can use up to 30 in a post!)

Call-to-Actions

Before integrating any CTAs into your posts, make sure your profile is filled out.. Especially your website if you have one! You need somewhere to direct people to purchase.

Once you have that done, at the end of your posts include something along to the lines of:

  • More info in the link in our bio.
  • Tap the link in our bio to order.
  • Send us a PM to order.
  • Sign up in the link in our bio.

Anything that directs your customers on how to get more information, how to order from you, how to contact you, etc. is great to add to any post it applies to. While you may think they would automatically know that, it’s still helpful to direct them to where you want them to go! Make things as simple as possible for your audience!

Influencer Marketing & User Generated Content

Influencer marketing (a partnership with an Instagram account with a significant following in your industry) and user generated content (content shared about your company from your own customers) not only shows off your company to their followers but it also gives you the opportunity to share their posts with your audience as well. This is one of the best ways to instill confidence and trust with your audience since hey, if they’re posting about it, they must be legit right?

Just keep in mind all the tips above when you share their posts. You want to make sure their image will visually fit in with your grid’s style while also crafting a post in your brand’s voice to highlight what that influencer or customer thought about your product or service.

Not sure where to find influencers? We’ve got you covered! And don't forget to encourage customers to tag your brand and/or use a designated hashtag!

It’s also important to analyze what resonates best with your audience. Do you see a spike in engagement and/or sales when you post a certain style of photo or use a specific CTA? Regularly analyze how your account is performing and adjust accordingly. It’s not a one-size fits all strategy so making the necessary adjustment for your brand is essential in finding the right strategy for you!

Instagram should just be one part of your overall marketing plan though because while Instagram is a great tool to help drive sales, you are also building your brand awareness which is just as important. Building strong connections with your audience is the first step of your Instagram strategy so keep that in mind while working through your plan. The sales will come after developing an engaged community!
