A few weeks ago I shared how I was in a little bit of a creativity slump and how I got my mojo back but what I didn’t tell you is that part of that had to do with my mindset. Every now and then I find myself slipping into a little more of a negative mindset than I like (even though I actively try to stay positive!)... and as a business owner, you know how important your mindset is! This can have a serious impact on your confidence and overall success as a biz owner. I truly believe that when I’m in a great mindset, our business flourishes even more… it’s like the universe is trying to reward me for being positive. (I know that may sound a little cray butttttt I’ve noticed this a lot throughout the years and seriously, being positive will never hurt so why not!). So I’m sharing a few tips on how I quickly adjust my mindset to get myself personally back on track so I could focus even more on crushing our goals at Bold & Pop! Can I get a whoop, whoop?!
Chances are you’ve heard the idea of saying 3 things you are grateful for each day to start your day off on a positive note. This is a great reminder that no matter what is going on, you always have something in your life to be grateful for but let’s be real… when you’re not in a great frame of mind, you get easily distracted and can forget to do this regularly.
This is exactly what happened to me a few weeks ago so what’s a girl to do?! While it’s easy to leave yourself a note on your mirror or on your computer screen, I personally start to tune those things out (yes, even if they are right in front of my face!). So I decided to set a reminder on my phone for the same time every single day! This way I get a notification and even if I look at it and don’t do my daily gratitude right away, the notification keeps popping up until I mark it complete. I haven’t missed a day since I’ve set this reminder.. YAY!
Another thing I recently started doing is writing down the 3 things I’m grateful for in a little journal. There’s something about actually writing these types of things down that seem to be much more effective (I’m also a huge fan of writing down my goals). It becomes more concrete for me and really helps transform my frame of mind to conquer anything!
Set Password to Goals
This is something I’ve actually done for a while but when you set your passwords to something that reflect a goal or helps inspire/motivate you, you’re reminded of it every time you type that password in. This helps keep you focused on whatever it is you want to achieve. It may seem simple (and maybe a little silly) but like I mentioned in my first point, writing down a goal makes it more concrete and this has the exact same effect!
Revisit Your Vision Board
One thing I do at the beginning of every year is create a vision board. This can be such a great way to set your intentions, focus, and goals for the year ahead (still don’t believe me, check out why we think you need a vision board!) And while I have my vision board out where I can see it every day as the year goes on, I don’t always look at it as often as I should. Just like with leaving a note to remind myself to share my daily gratitude, I tend to tune things out that are always there.
Lately I’ve been actively revisiting my vision board… Maybe not everyday but much more often than I was (no joke, I go stand in front of it and look at it while I brush my teeth..). This new practice has helped me first realize some of the things on my vision board I’ve already accomplished while also helping remind me what else I’d like to do this year. Seeing what I’ve already achieved instantly puts me in a good mood and gives me all the positivity I need to know I can accomplish the rest as well!
If you don’t already have a vision board, I suggest start by making one. They are seriously fun to create a visual representation of your goals and the life you’d like to create for yourself... Like a fun little scrapbook, crafting project!
Be Nice to Yourself
How often do you think something negative about yourself? I bet you’d be surprised how often these thoughts pop into your mind! We’re all our own worst critics and we often feel that we’re not good enough (especially as business owners!) so it’s really easy for negative thoughts to creep into your mind.
Because of this, it’s important to actively and consciously be nice to yourself. Everyday you should say at least one nice thing about yourself first thing in the morning. If you need to set a reminder on your phone like you did for your daily gratitude, DO IT! Go stand in front of the mirror and tell yourself how capable, smart, beautiful, amazing you are!
Trust me you’re going to feel pretty silly for a while but you will be shocked at how much this helps change your perspective of yourself and helps build that oh so important confidence you need as a business owner. It will become much easier to deal with the regular rejection we get as business owners because you know who you are and what you’re good at. You’ll start to carry yourself a little differently with that confidence which will naturally attract clients, customers, and just people in general to you. We are far too hard on ourselves… It’s time to be a little nicer.
And there you have it! A few small adjustments each day, week, and month will lead you into a completely different mindset and open so many new doors for you!
