Think of your website as a cupcake.. While you want the cupcake to taste amazing, if it’s not pretty most people aren’t going to want to eat it. This is exactly how you want to think of your website. The personality you add to your website is the frosting and sprinkles you add after your done building the structure of the site.
While this may seem like a no brainer, how do you actually make sure these details are infused into your website so you’re communicating the brand vision you want? Well we’re talking just that today and spilling some of the secrets we use when developing branding and a website for clients!
Once you have the structure and functionality of your website, it’s time to infuse your branding! You need to consider everything from your imagery to your color story, fonts and graphics. By adding elements like custom buttons, graphics, and even some animations, your site will start to really come alive! Tying all of these elements together in a cohesive manner will build an overall brand vision on your website which will start to form the personality.
Keep the fonts and colors you use consistent not only throughout your website but also your other marketing materials. We also recommend only using 2-3 fonts so you don’t overwhelm your audience. These details will make a big difference in your design.
Develop your Brand Voice
Don’t underestimate the copy on your website! This is a really great way to connect with your audience in a genuine way. The copy and tone you take will really depend on your industry and particular business but we suggest writing in a conversational way. This allows your audience to feel connected to your brand on a more personal level. It will also help attract your ideal client by speaking the way they speak!
This may be really uncomfortable at first since you want to look professional but by incorporating phrases you use and your own personality your audience can connect with you in a much more authentic way. (Setting you apart from your competition! Score!)
While we offer professional services, we still say things like ‘bomb digs’ in our copy. Not only is that how we actually talk but it really resonates with our ideal audience as well... because y'all at the bomb dot com.
Share Personal Touches
Another way to connect with your ideal audience is to share personal touches throughout your website. People want to do business with the person behind the logo so you want to make sure that shines through as well! Here are a few ideas on how you can let people in on who you are:
Incorporate yourself and your story into your About page with a photo of yourself
Add a signature to your About page and at the end of blog posts with a small picture of yourself
Incorporate personal stories (the good, the bad, and the ugly!) that allow your audience to connect with you on a personal level
Is there a fun fact or something you love that you can infuse into your site? (We’re just slightly obsessed with donuts if you couldn’t tell already!)
By incorporating these various elements, your website will quickly come alive with the brand personality you desire allowing your ideal audience to connect with you and ultimately purchase from and/or work with you!
