Tell us your bold boss story!
I am a fashion designer based in NYC turned fashion career coach. I absolutely love what I do! I've been working in the industry for over a decade in both small companies and large. Over the years I learned some great ways to systematize much of my work flow. It helps me get more done, and make time to do the fun, creative work that I loved. I started mentoring about three years ago through the YMA scholarship foundation. I loved sharing all my knowledge with these brilliant young new designers just starting out in their careers. It was through this mentoring that I decided to compile all my juicy nuggets of information and share it with more people. Thus Pick Glass was born!
We're all about bold boss moments, tell us about one of yours!
At the company I worked at we were pitching a new celebrity brand clothing collection to a major dept. store. We were on a shoe-string budget with little time. I borrowed a camera and lights from my marketing buddies and proceeded to shoot every piece of clothing individually. Then, I cropped everything out using PhotoShop, made a bad ass power point presentation and turned it into a video. This video was emailed to the buyer who quickly agreed to come take a look. We turned a conference room into a showroom where we did the pitch. This is what happens when you don't confine yourself to a job description.
What advice or words of encouragement do you have for the Bold Boss Tribe?
I believe that we can always learn something from others. Technology is always changing, so you must always be flexible and open to learning new ways of working. Keep an open mind and a willingness to learn and you will go far in anything you do!
