Tell us your bold boss story!:
I started out having NO idea what I wanted to do in life. I started out in public relations and absolutely loved the writing aspect of it. This led to my many internships and eventually a job in marketing which heavily focused on social media. Once I realized I could actually have a job working on projects for Instagram, FB and such - I was hooked. After a year of commuting 2 hours every day, I quit my 9-5 to start my own digital marketing agency, Social Swell, which I now run with one of my good friends that I met during my very first internship ever! When I made the leap and quit my job, I started cold emailing 50+ potential clients a day and now have a list of 5 amazing companies that I get to work with from the comfort of my own home (and sometimes pjs!)
I've always had a passion for photography so it seemed natural to incorporate those services into my company as well. Through my marketing job, I was also able to work with several influencers so I knew I wanted to continue that work also. My goals for my business in the coming year are to continue to grow by creating a team of influencers, photographers and videographers to work on projects for brands and to travel WAY more!
We're all about bold boss moments, tell us about one of yours!:
My big bold boss moment happened recently! I now earn more money as a freelancer than I did at my full-time office job last year - YAY!!
What advice or words of encouragement do you have for the Bold Boss Tribe?:
My support system was HUGE in helping me transition from an office job to freelancing. It definitely helps to have people in your corner rooting you on and who want to see you succeed.
I would also say to start small. There were so many times I felt overwhelmed and thought I would never be able to support myself freelancing. I set small goals like getting just one client, and suddenly that turned into 5 paying clients over time!
P.S. Exciting news! We launched a free #BoldBossTribe Facebook Group and would love for you to join us! Come on over!
