Tell us your bold boss story!
I left my inner city teaching job in 2012 to take a job at a corporation. I was burned out and overwhelmed. Then the Navy put my boyfriend on leave without pay while he waited to start his internship, and suddenly we were a one-income family. That frantic Google search of "how to become a freelance writer" allowed me to start a career that took me in an amazing direction. Since 2013, I've worked for myself as a writer, virtual assistant, and project manager. I hit the six-figure mark in my first 12 months solo and worked for companies like TrueCar and Microsoft.
We're all about bold boss moments, tell us about one of yours!
When I purposely wanted to scale my company down to a lifestyle business, I fired three of my biggest clients (who also happened to be the biggest headaches!) In short, I made the choice to select happiness over the hustle. It's been a godsend to get back to why I started freelancing in the first place!
What advice or words of encouragement do you have for the Bold Boss Tribe?
Always be authentic, even when that means making hard calls. Letting contractors go, firing clients, determining how to narrow your budget, or re-evaluating your purpose can be difficult, but when you're in the boss role, you need to make decisions like a CEO!
