Tell us your bold boss story!:

I started my t-shirt line called Girls Chronically Rock because of my experience. I was diagnosed with a muscle disease called Muscular Dystrophy while I was in graduate school getting a Master’s degree, but I did not let that stop me from focusing on my business. I knew I wanted to be a business owner since I was a little girl and I knew it was going to be something in fashion. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising from Framingham State University and my Master’s degree in Business Management. My t-shirt line is my passion right now and I love what I do and I am always thinking of the next big design or project that I can take over and accomplish. I also work as a part-time Merchandise Coordinator for Tommy John’s men’s underwear until I make the revenue I would like with my t-shirt line.

We're all about bold boss moments, tell us about one of yours!:

One of my bold boss moments was launching my t-shirt line in May with my own website www.girlschronicallyrock.com. Since launching, I have been promoting and advertising my line to the fullest by going to different networking events, connecting with other business professionals, and passing out business cards.

Another exciting opportunity I received this year was becoming the Massachusetts State Ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. I speak at different engagements/events and talk about what it is like living with Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy. While going to these different events I make sure to tell my story regarding my t-shirt line and how I will eventually have some of the proceeds go towards the Muscular Dystrophy Association. I also got the Mayor and Vice Mayor Denise E. Simmons and Marc Govern of Cambridge, MA and the Governor of Massachusetts Charlie Baler to do a proclamation for Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day which is every year on September 30th!

What advice or words of encouragement do you have for the Bold Boss Tribe?:

Don’t give up on what you believe in and what you want to accomplish no matter what you're going through at the moment. Keep going and don’t give up on your passion whether it's owning your own business, going after that promotion you may want at work or anything your heart desires. It will all be worth it once you accomplish your goals and you will feel good knowing you did it on your own.
