Tell us your bold boss story!:
I originally started Jade and Oak in 2012 as a lifestyle blog. I was two years out of law school and working full time as a litigator, so I wanted a creative outlet. I loved being able to share my story, learn about the blogging world and connect with other creatives. A few years in, I noticed that no one was talking about the legal side for bloggers and small online biz owners. I saw people making mistakes with their email lists, sponsored posts, giveaways, etc. I realized that no one wanted to take the time to teach the legal side to the "little guys."
This is when I decided to shift the focus of Jade and Oak to help other bloggers and biz owners. I wanted to share what I had learned as a blogger but also share my legal knowledge. Obviously the legal side can be daunting and intimidating, so it's always my goal to make it less scary. I believe that the legal side doesn't have to be confusing - it's all about making sure that you're educated so that you can protect yourself, your biz and also your customers/readers. I now educate others through tons of free resources, plus an ebook, legal templates and my courses. I know the legal side isn't the most exciting or fun, so I hope to always provide assistance in an approachable way.
We're all about bold boss moments, tell us about one of yours!:
Creating my legal course was a HUGE undertaking, especially since I continued to work full-time as I built up my business. Completing the course gave me a huge sense of accomplishment since I did it 100% on my own. Being able to learn the tech side, design the sales page, create the videos, write the bonuses, etc, all while working my day job made me feel super empowered.
I'm someone who doesn't relax very easily. I love having new projects to work on and feel the best when I have a new challenge that I'm tackling. Building my business all on my own and being able to influence, inspire and help other boss ladies is my greatest accomplishment and reward.
What advice or words of encouragement do you have for the Bold Boss Tribe?:
Keep your eyes on your own work. You can definitely take inspiration from other boss ladies, but don't get derailed or discouraged by what anyone else is doing. I can get sucked into the world of comparison too, so I try to remember to no one else is doing what I'm doing or in the same place that I am. So just pay attention to what you're doing and what's right for YOU. The rest will fall into place!
P.S. Exciting news! We launched a free #BoldBossTribe Facebook Group and would love for you to join us! Come on over!
