Tell us your bold boss story!:

I graduated college with a degree in Architecture and worked for about 3 years to eventually up and quit my job to backpack around the world. But, there's one small detail missing - I have Cystic Fibrosis which is a genetic disease that primarily affects my lungs and ability to breathe. I spend about 3 hours a day doing nebulizers, chest physical therapy, and medications, and that's when I'm feeling good. When I don’t feel well, I do those 3 hours PLUS another 5 hours of IV antibiotics every single day! You can imagine my backpacking trip was quite the site to see - I carried all of my equipment and thousands of medications in my backpack, with only room for a few changes of clothes.

Upon returning home I knew the 9-6 grind was not quite fitting with my lifestyle. I started Fabricated at your Fingertips, a branding, and website design company, quite literally during an IV infusion. Working a full-time job in an office environment had been negatively affecting my health and you can imagine how draining it was to fit in 3-8 hours of treatment a day on top of a full-time job.  So my choice was essentially to be pitiful about my situation or create a job that worked for my unique circumstances.  I decided to build myself a career that would allow me to work during IV infusions, from a hospital or local cafe, and even during my travels - because despite ending up in a hospital in Bali, I still have the travel bug!

We're all about bold boss moments, tell us about one of yours!:

My bold boss moment was the day I decided to leave the security of my full time job to travel - with no career plan!  It had been hard to find a job where my employer was “okay” with my random and frequent absences because I was sick.   I was so fortunate to have found an understanding employer - but taking the plunge to leave that position was the best decision I could’ve made.  I am healthier and happier and I have no choice now but to give this all I’ve got!
