Tell us your bold boss story!:
I started my business in January 2016. My husband and I had just moved to Dallas and knew nobody and I decided I wanted to be my own boss! But in reality, we had actually been planning this for 2 years prior. We had spent the 2.5 years prior to me quitting paying off ALL of our debt: student loans, credit cards...the whole she-bang. Our last month of debt payment ended up being the month we moved to Dallas, so I decided to go for it!
I had also spent the previous couple of years listening to podcasts like Smart Passive Income and reading blogs from Melyssa Griffin and was introduced to this entire world of online business ownership. No one in my family is an entrepreneur so this world was totally new to me. It was super exciting and thrilling to think about being my own boss, so when I finally got the chance to quit, I was ecstatic (and also terrified!)
We're all about bold boss moments, tell us about one of yours!:
I've built almost my entire business around referrals. Actually, one segment of my business (my PR services) came to be entirely from referrals...I never even had it on my website until a few weeks ago! I'm super proud of that because that means I'm doing a great job for my current clients, great enough that they are willing to refer me to their network, which means the world to me.
What advice or words of encouragement do you have for the Bold Boss Tribe?:
Build relationships. Seriously, it will take you so far in life and it doesn't cost a dime. I think people underestimate the power of relationship building. My business has grown so much over the past year directly because of the relationships I've built with people in person and online. Reach out to someone you follow on Instagram, go to a local Meetup...just chat with other people about your business (not in a sleazy way) and you'll start to see people referring you to their network of people. You never know who you will meet or who you will end up working with!
P.S. Exciting news! We launched a free #BoldBossTribe Facebook Group and would love for you to join us! Come on over!
