Tell us your bold boss story!:
The short version is that my business started by wanting to help my fellow music majors better market their recitals with great photos for their recital posters. Then it turned into helping models and actors sell themselves with their headshot. Then documenting special life moments and events like weddings and family portraits. Then editorial imagery of celebrities and guest speaker events for universities. Now I help Architects, Interior Designers, Decorators, Builders, and Craftsmen share and sell the quality and beauty of their work with the rest of the world.
I've written and recorded more about this complicated journey of being self-employed.
We're all about bold boss moments, tell us about one of yours!:
- Taking an intentional sabbatical and break from my normal business routine to travel the world for 8 months was pretty rad.
- Giving a TEDx Talk about why I wasn't using my degree in music was nerve-wracking but cathartic.
- Successfully moving my business to 5 different cities is an awesome accomplishment.
- Managing big changes has been a huge theme in a lot of the interviews I've done.
What advice or words of encouragement do you have for the Bold Boss Tribe?:
Start by being the boss of yourself. Being a boss comes with a high level of accountability, self-investigation, humility, and multi-tasking. You can't function at your highest and best without first going through a process of discovering what it is that you do better than anyone else and how you can optimize your personal talents and then hire and contract out the rest. It starts with a deep authenticity in knowing who you are and acknowledging which weaknesses allow room for growth and expansion in your business and life.
